JET HOCKEY STARTER SKATING LESSONS
Starts Sunday April 13th
This program is designed to give the new skater the essential skating foundation to get their hockey development “right from the beginning!” There is no more enjoyable sport to play than ice hockey. Due to skating being a complex sport on its own, the initial stages make it a little challenging to start. But with patience, persistence and fun, the long-term rewards are unmatched.
Combining a progression curriculum and fun, players will be taught:
• Falling and getting up off and on ice
• SUMO- our foundation mantra
• Swizzles
• 2 foot glides
• Marching
• 1 foot glides
• Lots of movement- fun games…. you got to move to improve!
• Intro to inside/outside edges
• Intro to stopping
• Intro to forward strides
• If appropriate, fun time with stick and balls-
• And more skills if appropriate
All players must have at least a good fitting bike helmet. An approved hockey helmet with full mask is highly recommended. Full equipment is ideal, but players can start with flexible clothes (layers)and ski gloves. Many players use inline knee and elbow pads. Snug fitting skates are important. Jet has a limited supply of skates to borrow.
EQUIPMENT-Jet has partnered with www.rinkratrentals.comwhich will supply any rental equipment you need. Play It Again Sports in Northbrook has a good used selection. Pure Hockey and Jerry’s Warehouse are new equipment retail hockey specialists.
